Blodgett Urban Gardens, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is committed to providing access to fresh produce, educating the community about gardening and good nutrition, and creating a safe gathering place for the most vulnerable population. They host weekly Farmer's Markets and provide access to fresh fruits and vegetables for donations only. They also partner with local vendors to provide access to specialty items below market rate. The Rotary Club of Innovation has partnered with “BUG” in their efforts to eradicate food insecurity, one of our Club Pillars, through their produce, programs, and initiatives. RCOI will lead a volunteer team once a month on the 4th Saturday of each month, unless otherwise scheduled. We will also be developing plans and programs to help them improve efficiency, effectively manage operations, and achieve their objectives. Volunteer Needs Each Saturday, garden enthusiasts, community members, local residents, food advocates along with BUG supporters join together to maintain the community garden. Join the Rotary Club of Houston's satellite club, the Rotary Club of Innovation as we "Innovate the Garden!" Blodgett Urban Garden "BUG" is committed to alleviating food insecurity and improving nutrition in the 3rd Ward, an area classified by the USDA as a "food desert". The Rotary Club of Innovation has partnered with “BUG” to maintain the garden every last Saturday morning of the month! After gardening, we meet for an optional dinner at a locally-owned restaurant. Volunteer Needs Energized gardening volunteers to maintain and plant the garden beds. Dont know how to garden? We can teach you! We will also be building 10 garden beds, volunteers experienced with drills are encouraged! George H. Scott Texas Public Education Academic Accountability Currently serves as volunteer consultant on a range of public education policy issues for the Texas Latino School Boards Association - a civil rights group he believes is fully dedicated as demonstrated by it actions to aggressive advocacy for at-risk, economically disadvantaged students in Texas. He is working with the TLSBA on a major project scheduled for completion later this year. PERSONAL Professional career has involved community-based journalism, nonprofit public policy research, and media consulting in business, government and political fields. He worked for the Harris County Appraisal District during his career. Scott’s wife Anne is a classroom teacher. They have three children and nine grandchildren. Now retired at 73, Scott’s ‘hobby’ has been consulting with civil rights attorneys and community organizations on public education policy issues. Since 2018, Connor Hagan has served as an FBI Public Affairs Officer (PAO) providing media support during critical incidents, answering daily press inquiries related to federal investigations, and highlighting significant FBI cases for public attention. He maintains an active FBI social media presence and enjoys working with numerous media, law enforcement, and community leaders throughout Texas. Connor Hagan joined the FBI in July 2015 as a member of FBI Milwaukee’s Special Surveillance Group where he conducted covert surveillance of foreign spies and suspected terrorists related to national security investigations. Within a few years, he shifted into a support role where he provided administrative assistance to the counterterrorism, counterintelligence, human intelligence, and violent crime squads. In January 2018, he transferred to the Houston Field Office in his first posting as an FBI PAO. After two years in Texas, Connor transferred to Little Rock as the sole FBI PAO for the entire state of Arkansas. While in this position, Connor was selected for the FBI’s elite Media Fly Team (MFT), where he was deployed to numerous critical incidents and mass casualty events around the nation during his two-year assignment. After three years in Arkansas, Connor is back in Houston alongside his fiancée and large extended family. Before joining the FBI, Connor studied organized crime and national security while earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). |

Past, Present & Future of Public Health Care Planning, Facilities, and outcomes in Harris County and beyond. Dr. Porsa received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center Medical School in San Antonio. He completed his internship and residency training in internal medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston where he also served as the Chief Medical Resident in 1996. Dr. Porsa completed a Master of Public Health degree in epidemiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health as well as a 2-year fellowship program in primary care at the UTHSC-Houston medical school in 2005. He served the Harris County community as an Assistant Professor at UTHSC-Houston until 2007 when he accepted the position of the Medical Director for Parkland Health and Hospital System Correctional Health program in 2007. In 2013, he became the Associate Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President for Professional and Academic Affairs for Parkland Health and Hospital System. In January 2015, Dr. Porsa assumed the role of the Interim Chief Medical Officer for Parkland until January 2016 when he accepted the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy and Integration Officer for Parkland Health and Hospital System. Dr. Porsa has a special interest in the management of Tuberculosis in correctional facilities. He has published several articles in this area and has participated as an expert scientist in national meetings including the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Porsa has been the principle investigator and co-investigator in various recent studies including an industry funded study for determining the feasibility of using the new IGRA blood test for TB screening as well as a CDC funded study of MRSA transmission among correctional facility inmates at the Dallas County Jail. |

Come join us for an informal Happy Hour at Second Draught at the ION! This is a monthly event for all club members, guests, & prospective members to get together in a casual setting and learn more about the Rotary Club of Innovation and our mission! This event is hosted by the Rotary Club of Innovation, a Satellite Club of the Rotary Club of Houston located in the Ion District. Our mission is to serve communities in the Third Ward, Ion District, and Greater Houston Area as a catalyst for change, empowering these communities to achieve equity, address food insecurity, and combat human trafficking. Grab a glass or just join us for the fellowship as we share updates on the awesome projects our club is leading and hear directly from the communities we support and serve! THE VENUE Second Draught is a "craft beer pub at the Ion District, featuring an incredible line-up from Houston breweries!" "The Ion fosters a community and culture where corporate innovators, academic partners, community partners, startups, and entrepreneurs come together to solve some of the world’s greatest problems. This 266,000-square foot structure is designed to bring Houston’s entrepreneurial, corporate, and academic communities together into collaborative spaces and programs." PARKING Parking is available in the main parking lot in front of Second Draught or across the street in the gated parking area. You can press the call button when you pull up to the gate and they will let you in the gated lot after hours. Street parking may also be available in some areas and may be free beginning at 6:00pm. Read all signs carefully. |

Blodgett Urban Gardens, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is committed to providing access to fresh produce, educating the community about gardening and good nutrition, and creating a safe gathering place for the most vulnerable population. They host weekly Farmer's Markets and provide access to fresh fruits and vegetables for donations only. They also partner with local vendors to provide access to specialty items below market rate. The Rotary Club of Innovation has partnered with “BUG” in their efforts to eradicate food insecurity, one of our Club Pillars, through their produce, programs, and initiatives. RCOI will lead a volunteer team once a month on the 4th Saturday of each month, unless otherwise scheduled. We will also be developing plans and programs to help them improve efficiency, effectively manage operations, and achieve their objectives. Volunteer Needs Each Saturday, garden enthusiasts, community members, local residents, food advocates along with BUG supporters join together to maintain the community garden. Sign up today to join RCOI as we give back to our community! The Job(s): Maintain plots of vegetables by removing weeds and overgrowth, harvest vegetables, plant seeds, and have a great time fellowshipping!
