Jan. 05, 2023 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
First, this is a greeting to each of you, wishing you a healthy happy and productive year 2023. Many right things are in place for this to be a very fruitful year, in all the things we do, say, and hope for. Imagine Rotary is not only our theme for this year, but we have also together learned and participated in many innovative things, and I have a strong premonition that “we ain’t seen nothing yet.” We are so blessed in our club to have so many forward thinking people in many diverse and balanced areas and disciplines. Both our active members, visitors, and speakers have shared so many “imagine” thoughts this year so far, but we have 6 months more to go as we together rebuild ideas, visions, community, and beyond. Our first Thursday noon meeting of the Rotary Club of Houston will be on January 5, 2023. I want the program for that day to be US and our visitors, just as we have every week. This should be both a club and individual revitalization. We will involve everyone at every table as we address several things:
I am very excited about this upcoming club interaction and strategizing. This is not a member only meeting as many of our visitors and anticipated upcoming new members are part of our 2023 Rotary Imagine good times. Thank you for the privilege and opportunity of being your President of the Rotary Club of Houston this year. Kenneth L. Mattox |

BECAUSE YOU HAVE REPEATEDLY ASK & REASKED – President Kenneth Mattox has put together a tabletop panel of individuals including himself, Roberto Canavati. Dr. David Persse, Dr. James Harrell, Laura Jahns, Annie Song Torres & others who routinely aid others in “Innovative 24 Access in Navigating Recognizing and Responding to potentially life threating medical conditions.” Without any HIPPA violations, real life cases will be presented and discussed. Houston is home to some of the most fantastic medical, psychiatric, and surgical care anywhere in the world, but is worthless if it cannot be accessed when needed. Mechanisms to get the right person, to the right place, to see the right provider, in the right time, will be discussed. Every single person attending Rotary Club weekly meetings has experienced those very scary sinking feelings when encountering signs, symptoms, and fears that these perhaps represent the signals that immediate health access is indicated, but concern that an expensive extraneous workup might need to be avoided. Various public, private, and even purchased services have been arranged, with names such as “Care Navigator; Concierge Services; VIP Response; and 24 Access” are descriptors of existing vehicles to speedy and professional screening and therapeutic evaluation and care. We will be emphasizing the symptoms which should NOT be ignored and what to do for:
There WILL be time for questions from the floor. You may want to have some paper to take notes. Kenneth L, Mattox, MD |

When: | March 4, 2023 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM |
Where: | Rise Against Hunger - Houston Warehouse 8901 Jameel Rd, Ste. 130 Houston, TX 77040 |
About Rise Against Hunger Watch Video https://youtu.be/TI9LOljt1RU
For the first time since the pandemic, we are able to open up the event to Rotarians who would like to be present in person to be part of the celebration.
Franklin Elementary School at 7101 Canal St 77011 will be the host location. Their principal is very excited and will be an enthusiastic participant.
We will arrive at approximately 8 am and be finished at 9:30 am. We will know in a few days how many schools can be included. Last year 28 schools participated in the live broadcast. Vern earned a huge home run and our deepest thanks by sharing the excitement with a generous friend who donated an additional $47,000 to cover the rest of the third grades in HISD. ❤️
All third graders in Franklin will be in one location and will be linked with the students in all other participating schools for parents and friends to watch via TEAMS. You will not need to register for the VIPS a program-but will need to sign in for a badge at the school.
The price per dictionary has gone up and to get an accurate number delivery to each school, Geovanny will be accepting the shipments and SRO’s (School Resource Officers) will deliver them to each campus. We certainly thank him for leading the charge with logistics and the HISD media department. We will be selecting as many schools as there are funds in order of need.
Please contact Kathy Fenninger or Monique Johnson-Garner with any questions.

JOIN VIRTUALLY ---> APRIL 20, 2023
Imagine a day when cancer is treated with something as simple as a Z-Pac. Or a day when cancer is preventable through immunization. Or, better yet, a day when we can declare that cancer has been eradicated. While it might seem unimaginable, with the ever-accelerating advancements in technology, artificial technology, etc., such dreams may become a reality in the not too distant future. And it all starts with RESEARCH.
Since 1970, the Rotary Club of Houston has proudly supported cancer research through the Rotary Lombardi Award. The 49th RLA was held on December 7, 2022 and this week we will be presenting checks to the American Cancer Society and MD Anderson. We are pleased to have Jenny Todd, Senior Executive Director of the American Cancer Society, Houston; Emily Koch, Associate Director, Leadership Giving and Philanthropy at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center; Nicholas Navin, Professor and Chair of the Department of Systems Biology at MD Anderson Cancer Center joining us as representatives of these great organizations. Jenny and Emily will be updating us on their fundraising efforts and how the donations from the RLA and other contributors support cancer research.
Please join us on Thursday, April 20 as we celebrate a successful 49th RLA and turn the page as we focus our collective energies to make the 50th Rotary Lombardi Award the most successful fundraiser we’ve ever had.
